Due to a change of management we are taking a break for a year. See you again in 2021!!
2020 is the13th Worthing Children's parade's and this year for the parade's theme we have chosen Fairy Tale characters from Brothers Grimm to Disney the world is your oyster!. Fairy tales have been told through generations and have become entwined with our culture, myths and legends.
where you are transported into a magical world of Trolls, Dragons, Elves, Princess, Witches, Mermaids and talking animals.
For the 2020 parade we are continuing to put on our free arts, crafts and literacy activities for children of school age and younger both in the run up to the event and on the day. Based upon the extremely popular Arts Awards workshops that took place at St Andrew's High School for Boys, we are also hoping to continue to be able to offer FREE places on this program for children who attend the school that are signed up to take part in the parade.
We have opened up the theme so that schools may choose any character from any Fairy tale story books to create their schools ‘big make’ entry. Teachers and students will work with one of the Parade artists in a school based workshop to develop their character design into three dimensions.
The parade offers the opportunity for all schools, clubs, community groups and educational settings to take part regardless of Key stage or location. Traditionally we have just had schools from Worthing enter, however, in recent years a number of schools from neighbouring towns have also joined us. We also have a growing Secondary High school entry with several local secondary schools taking part each year and would love to add new schools to our ranks. So why not do a joint project with your English department and really make learning come to life for your students!!!!
Each year schools, children, teachers and parents work together to create fabulously exciting designs and sculptures and our themes and broad enough appeal to children of all ages. So if you're into the darkly magical world of the Brothers Grimm or the sugar and spice of a Disney princess the Worthing Childrens parade 2020 will have some to offer everyone.
In the morning of the Parade we all gather at Beach House Park Grounds between 9am and 9:30am and plan to start at 10am. The parade moves westwards along the Seafront towards West Buildings and then along Montague Street, all the way down to South Street; turning left towards South Street Square, the parade will then turn right onto Warwick Street and end at Steyne Gardens at approximately 11:00-11:30am. The children are welcomed back into Steyne gardens with the Mayor and Mayoress watching on along with the Guild Care Foundation Family Day.
At the Family Day there will be fairground rides, hot food and drinks available and a selection of other stall as well as a plethora of children's entertainment to while away the rest of the afternoon.
The Children's parade is continuing their partnership with the Worthing Artists Open Houses. The Children's Parade takes place on the 13th June 2020 which is first weekend of the Open houses fortnight, this is a lovely way to begin the summer arts event. To find out about the houses and other venues that are open during the Open houses event follow this link
and pick up a brochure, so you can explore the arts trail. After the parade some of the Big makes will be on display as part of the Worthing Artist Open Houses at St Andrew's School for Boys, dates of this exhibition are to be confirmed, but why not pay a visit and get up close to some of the parade's huge sculptures.
Based upon the success of last years Saturday book readings and art workshops at Worthing Library and Worthing Museum and Art gallery we are very please to be offering these again as part of the 2020 parade celebrations. We of course will be offering the free Art crafting workshops and book readings in the Arts and crafts marquee on the Steyne at the Family Day after the parade.
